Big news from Core Strength Equipment! Earlier this month, our very own Matt successfully completed his final triathlon of 2024, the Vitruvian 70.3 at Whitwell, Rutland Water. But his athletic journey isn’t over yet—he's gearing up for a whole new challenge: HYROX.
A New Race, A New Focus
Matt is diving into the intense world of HYROX, a competition that blends strength, speed, and stamina. On Saturday, November 16th, he'll be competing in the Men’s Open in Dublin, followed by the Men’s Pro Division in London on Saturday, November 30th.
This isn’t just about entering a new race format; it’s about completely overhauling his approach to training and nutrition. Follow Matt’s journey on our Instagram to get insider tips, training strategies, and updates on his progress as he takes on this new challenge.
Why the Shift from Triathlon to HYROX?
While triathlons require endurance and the ability to pace long distances, HYROX is a whole different beast. It combines short bursts of explosive strength with endurance, requiring athletes to perform at high intensity across multiple disciplines. Matt’s transition into HYROX has inspired him to rethink his supplement strategy.
Matt’s New Supplement Regimen with BLDR
To meet the demands of HYROX, Matt has switched to a supplement plan tailored to build both strength and endurance. This new approach is powered by BLDR, a brand founded by 3x HYROX World Champion Hunter McIntyre. Matt’s revamped regimen now includes:
- BLDR Sports Pre Power (270g): Boosts energy and focus before intense workouts.
- BLDR Strength X2 (360g): Supports muscle growth and endurance.
- BLDR Sports Hydro (360g): Keeps hydration and electrolyte levels in check for peak performance.
From Lactate Threshold to Lactate Tolerance
In triathlons, Matt focused on improving his lactate threshold, the point at which lactic acid begins to build up faster than it can be cleared, leading to fatigue. HYROX requires a different approach—lactate tolerance. This is the ability to push through high levels of exertion despite rising lactic acid levels.
To train for this, Matt is pushing his body to its limits with workouts that challenge his lactate tolerance, aided by BLDR’s performance-enhancing supplements.
