If you’ve ever found yourself lacing up your trainers with a sigh instead of excitement, you’re not alone. Hitting a plateau in your fitness journey is incredibly common. Whether you’re new to exercise or have years of training under your belt. Feeling stuck is often a sign that you’re ready for your next breakthrough. I spent the last 6 months of 2025 really focusing on building a positive relationship with exercise again. Running Core Strength full time, supporting the team at our Core Gym and also juggling being a mother to two small
children I found that I wasn’t prioritising my own health. Finding the consistency and enjoyment for exercise has been a massive positive for me these last 6 months and I am already experiencing great results, both mentally and physically.
How did I do it?
Structure
● One of the biggest myths in fitness is that motivation comes first. In reality, structure is what keeps you moving when motivation fades, you have to build a structure that works for you. In my world of constant rushing, long days and juggling our children it really helps if you can juggle with your partner to not only allow you the time but also allow them to exercise. Take it in turns!
● Try planning your workouts weekly instead of daily. Treat them like appointments, not optional extras. I plan my week in advance, and of course curveballs come my way daily but now my training is non negotiable and I will squeeze it in somewhere, somehow!
● Consistency is what drives long-term results.
● You also need to remember to be patient with yourself. Results won’t happen physically straight away but they do eventually. Remember your reasons for doing it, a healthy body runs deeper than the outside aesthetics.
Having the right gym equipment can unlock progress
One overlooked reason people feel stuck is limited access to suitable gym equipment. You don’t need a massive commercial gym to train effectively but you do need tools that support your goals.
This is where thoughtfully chosen home gym equipment can make a huge difference.
Based on how and what you like to train depends on the kit that is best for you.
I train for HYROX events, 10K running events and like to focus on building strength
My Top Kit picks in my home gym are:
I typically do 2-3 running sessions per week, 2 strength sessions and
then 2-3 high intensity HYROX / Hybrid style workouts.
Advice for creating your own Home Gym:
- Start small and build intentionally:
- Choose equipment that matches your goals.
- Prioritise quality over quantity. Well-made gym equipment lasts longer and feels better to use, which matters more than having endless options.
- Gradually add to your home gym equipment as your training evolves, you create an environment that grows with you, rather than overwhelming you.
Feeling stuck with your fitness journey can be frustrating but it’s also an opportunity. By reassessing your goals, refreshing your workouts, and investing in the right gym equipment, you can reignite progress and enjoyment. I now have the best relationship with exercise I think I have ever had! The key for me is consistency, patience and finding enjoyment from your training, whatever that may look like for you.
